Opinion | John Delaney: Pay Americans to take a coronavirus vaccine – The Washington Post

I’m afraid I have to disagree.

This solution is not “simple.”

While the reasoning behind this idea and the subsequent op-ed may sound, individuals’ health decisions should be 100% separate from their financial standing. Period. No matter what.

Should the vaccine be free? Absolutely.

Should the government provide free healthcare to all? Absolutely.

Should an education campaign be well underway to ensure (as much as possible, anyway), that America, particularly vulnerable populations, will not be collective guinea pigs for a project inappropriately named “Operation Warpspeed”? Yes, absolutely, starting yesterday.

But someone’s standing, the current financial situation should not have ANY bearing on whether they want to get the vaccine (at all, or even when).

Perhaps politicians can spend their time urging the federal government to do their job with the tools we have now, rather than a hypothetical vaccine that we currently only have press release data on.
